Welcome to the Solution Exchange for Pacific Development Effectiveness Community!!

How it works

The Pacific Solution Exchange is a facilitated email based network that hosts e-discussions to strengthen development effectiveness in the Pacific.  Launched in Ocober 2010, The Pacific Development Effectiveness Community is the first community to be set up as part of a trial to see if this approach will be successful in the Pacific.  During this period, e-Discussion around key issues affecting the Pacific will be hosted, such as ‘Acceleration of achievement of MDGs’ and ‘Climate Change Resourcing’.

The Facilitation Team launches an e-discussion topic in the community.  Over the next 2-3 weeks, members of the community share their opinions, ideas and recommendations via email.  The facilitation team moderates the discussions to ensure the views expressed are framed positively and constructively.  At the end of the “Discussion” period, the Facilitation Team synthesizes the thread into a Consolidated Reply – a synopsis of the responses together with the additional resources recommended (websites, readings, experts or organizations), that is circulated to the Community. The trial is expected to end in December 2011, with its 7th discussion. Read more about post trial plans.

Solution Exchange is a real-time facilitation service based on contributions from peers in an impartial UN-sponsored space.

After the trial

An evaluation of the trial demonstrated that members valued the service and were keen to continue interacting with a Pacific development community of practice. The evaluation also highlighted areas in which the service could be expanded to improve its responsiveness to member concerns.

The Pacific Solution Exchange service has broadened to introduce “Help,” “Consult” and “Collaborate” services where members of the community can ask queries, consult on working documents and work together in smaller groups. The Development Effectiveness Community’s focus has also shifted to include climate change adaptation, in recognition of the strong link between climate change and development in the Pacific, and that it is important NOT to consider climate change in isolation of broader development issues.

This shift in focus also recognizes the expectation that large resource flows for climate change adaptation will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of development funding and programming in the Pacific.

A new community on ‘Climate Change Adaptation and Development
is being launched in November 2011, connecting experts from around the world specializing in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and climate change.
